Gradient Spring/Summer Nails

This is a fun way to get bright one-of-a-kind beautiful nails. This pink and blue color combination is my favorite because it reminds me of cotton candy and ice cream. I'll be wearing this trend all throughout May!
What You Will Need:
1. Makeup Sponge or Angled Eyeliner Brush
2. Complimentary Colored Polish (2-3 different shades)
3. Clear Top Coat

- start with your 2-3 favorite complimentary pastel polishes..or neon!
- apply 2 coats of the base color on your nails.
- allow 10 minutes to let them dry.
- layer the darker color and swipe your nail with a brush or sponge starting from the middle, working your way down the edge.
- start by applying the color from light to dark and repeat.
- let your nails completely dry and then apply a clear no chip top coat.

Trashique Fashion Show 2012

Some of the years finest trash was displayed at this years fashion show, “Trashique”. Hundreds attended this event to support the Fresno Art Museum. It was a benefit fashion show held on April 21st that asked designers to create clothing from recycled materials. Remember that episode on Project Runway? One of my best friends walked the catwalk. There were so many amazing designs.. My favorite being the Baskin Robins Ice Cream dress. Delicious!

Inside Emily's Room

Meet Emily. She's brings out my adventurous side and inspires me to do what I love.
Let's take a peek inside her room. It's pretty fabulous just like her.

April Birchbox

My April Birchbox has arrived and I am in love with everything yet again. I have discovered so many fantastic products through this company and learned a lot about hair and beauty along the way. "This month, we're bringing things back down to earth with fresh products that take inspiration from the world around us."

Since the weather has been fluctuating up and down between rain and some serious heat, my hair has been acting up lately. My roots are getting oily and my ends are drying out. I am looking forward to trying this nourishing hair mask by Amika. It's rich in omega acids and Vitamin C, and helps repair split ends.

This is the second month in a row that I've received nail polish in my Birchbox and I couldn't be happier. Spring collections in nail color have always been my favorite. I've been trying lots of new trends (the caviar manicure) lately and discovering new colors. This purple polish with a slight sheen by Zoya is something I would shy away from in the stores. I am glad I'll get to try something out of my comfort zone.

I know that every month Birchbox throws in an "extra" and this month it was a Lifestyle extra. Laundry detergent by Dropps to be exact. Not only are these little dropps convenient, but their single-use, eco-friendly detergent packs that will have clothes smelling extra clean. I'll be trying these out this weekend!

My favorite product that surprised me this month was a perfume. Not just any perfume but Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift. I am always hesitant when it comes to "celebrity" perfumes. There are so many on the market, and most of them smell horrible. I was shopping in ULTA around Christmas time and saw this huge display of Wonderstruck and there was only one bottle left. I tested it and was shocked at how good it smelled. My best friend Heather had been talking to me about it for a while telling me she loved it, so I bought it for her as a Christmas gift. I was so happy to get a sample, which I will be wearing all week. There's a good chance I'll even be purchasing the full size of this on the Birchbox website

With this beautiful Spring weather and the pretty neon green tissue paper my box was wrapped in, I decided to photograph my Birchbox on the grass. A bright and better way to show these wholesome picks!

Trend Alert: The Caviar Manicure

A new nail polish trend is blowing up in the UK thanks to Ciate. The caviar manicure consists of tiny balls that stick to your nails, covering them completely, appearing as if its caviar. Over, the weekend I stopped by Michael's with Heather and we picked up some microbeads (which came in all different colors)! We didn't have any nail polish with us, so we picked up a Revlon pink and a cheap clear coat by NYC just to try it out. The total cost was only $10, which is a good deal for the complete look. Ciate will be releasing in Sephora and select beauty stores in the US in late April, but if your like me and don't want to wait to try this out, search for some microbeads at a local Fabric Store and I'm sure you can find some! The thought of this idea is so creative. If you mess around with other materials I'm sure your manicure will turn out to be one of a kind!

The Experience: I applied one coat of pink polish onto my nails and then let them dry. Then for each nail, I put the second coat on and dumped the microbeads on while the nail was wet (letting the excess beads fall into a bowl) so the entire nail was completely covered. After all of my nails were done, I added a clear coat on top to secure the beads in place. It turned out very dull, so if you want the full effect I would leave the clear coat off.

My Thoughts: If your someone who tends to pick their nails at boredom, then this is not for you. I absolutely love the way that this manicure photographs, but it did not last long at all. I usually paint my nails every 4-5 days because I like experimenting with colors, but this peeled and flaked right off in a matter of hours.

Beauty Obsessed

Instyle Magazine did some research, and got the scoop on the 10 most beauty obsessed cities. Can you guess who is number one? Instyle asked FourSquare on how many people checked into beauty stores world wide. There were more than 300,000 check-ins at Sephora, ULTA, and MAC. I am proud to say that Fresno, California had the most check-ins of all. We must really love makeup here!

1. Fresno, California
2. Lubbock, Texas
3. Tulsa, Oklahoma
4. Champaign, Illinois
5. Las Vegas, Nevada
6. Atlantic City, New Jersey
7. San Francisco, California
8. New York, New York
9. Houston, Texas
10. Pensacola, Florida

data was very similar to a survey conducted in February, that found that almost half of American women feel unattractive without make-up. Women in Britain are quite similar to us American ladies. A British study conducted in March found that 91 percent of women said that they would rather cancel a first date than show up without makeup. Also, 31 percent of British women said they wouldn't go to the gym without wearing any makeup."

Instagram Love

Since I am an iPhone 4S owner, I'm pretty much addicted to so many Apps. Instagram is one of them that I can't stop posting too. It's fun to take a photo and use different filters to change the color and backround. Here are some photos that were taken on Instagram in the month of March!
