Betsey Johnson's Last Runway Show

On Friday, September 11th Betsey Johnson celebrated her label's 50th anniversary for New York Fashion Week at the Skylight at Moynihan Station, which would be her last collection ever shown. She received the CFDA's Lifetime Achievement Award in June.

"This is the big bang", she told Daily News. The collection she showed was enormous and reflected fifty years in the fashion industry. There were over 54 outfits and 1,000 guests who viewed the collection which was organized in groups that were named after her favorite haunts: Limelight, Palladium, Mud Club, Electric Circus, Max's Kansas City, and her childhood dance studio, Anna K. Primm Presents. "This completes me" she says, happily about her collection.

Collection In Groups Of Order:
Limelight: Flouncy skirts in bright colors covered in glitter and sequins.
Palladium: 80's inspired - dresses with neon prints like multi-colored fish, and corsets.
Mud Club: British punk rock meets goth. (A model gave the finger at the end.)
Electric Circus: 70's hippie with a clown-inspired vibe.
Max's Kansas City: 60's mod with big beehive hair.
Ann K. Primm: Fun, and colorful candy-theme.

Betsey Johnson explains in an interview with PBS that will show as a special called "American Masters" on September 25th, that her fashion shows are not only about the clothes.

She explains that she must created a theme first, and then a collection to show with a mini-party around her clothing. It is the whole experience and presentation that inspires her and she genuinely wants to make each show fun.

Betsey comes out at the end of each show to acknowledge her spectators and does a cartwheel into the splits each time. Although she is 73 years old this year, you never would think that the lady with bright blonde hair, blunt cut bangs, and striped leggings coming down the catwalk is that old. She has the heart of a twenty year old and her energy is contagious.
Check out Betsey's New York apartment to see how her style reflects her home decor.
I am sure going to miss watching her runway shows, but I think the way she ended was perfect. Cheers to the next chapter in your life Betsey. Relax and take a vacation!
